It was stolen from the 2200 block of Tanglevine Drive in Austin, TX (78748), at approximately 3:00 AM, December 17, 2001. The truck is a two-tone, Blue 1989 Chevrolet C1500 extended cab pickup truck. The truck had just less than 175,000 miles on it. The Texas license plate was a vanity plate that read "DOUVA.” The truck has a black bug guard on the front of the hood. The right side of the front windshield has a large “spider” crack in it. The TX state inspection sticker had expired in August. There is small waving US flag sticker on the top center of the rear windshield. There is a round, blue and white USPA (United States Parachute Association) sticker (featuring a parachute with a pair of wings) in the lower left-hand corner of the rear windshield. The passenger side power window does not function, and is held in place by some Styrofoam wedged into the opening at its base. There is a red gas can in the bed of the pickup, locked with a bicycle lock to the bed rail behind the driver’s side of the cab. There is a kill switch installed under the dashboard, but it was not activated when the truck was stolen. There is a motion detector Velcroed under the dashboard, just to the right of the ashtray, but it was only armed when the truck was parked in front of my apartment (it uses a transmitter to activate an alarm in my apartment when triggered). There is a fake cell phone with a hidden wireless camera built into it, attached to the top of the dashboard, on top of the right speaker, but like the motion detector, it was only activated when the truck was parked outside of my apartment. The aftermarket radio/CD player had been destroyed a few months earlier by a botched robbery attempt, but the face had been replaced, making it appear functional. The power steering was prone to going out on this truck because the power steering hose kept detaching from the pump (I had to replace the hose repeatedly, over the last few months). The top half of the truck had recently been painted. Scratches were visible beneath the paint. The following are some of the items that were in my truck when it was stolen: 1 - Browning .22-caliber lever-action rifle in a bearskin, wool lined saddle holster (locked behind back seat) 1 - Vector “Power City” Multi-Function AC/DC Jumpstart System 1 - Handheld CB Radio Miscellaneous camping gear, including 1 – camouflage green dome tent, 1 - sleeping bag, 1 - single burner camping stove, 2 - pillows, various food items, various articles of clothing, 1 - pair of hiking boots, 1 - pair of tennis shoes, 1 - pair of snow boots, 2 - handheld flashlights, 1 - Petzl headlamp flashlight. 1 - PACA Extended Side Coverage Bullet Proof Vest (black) size MR (Medium Regular), Threat Level IIIA 1 - 24”x36” Picture Frame 1 - Canon Backpack 1 - Sealed Camouflage Green British Biochemical Suit 1 - Israeli Gas Mask 2 - Sealed NATO Gas Mask Filters 1 - 119 pc. Tool Kit (behind back seat) 1 - 12v DC - 110v AC Power Inverter 1 – Remington MicroScreen I Electric Razor 1 - Trailer Hitch 1 - Crew Badge from the feature film The Rookie (a personal keepsake – hanging from rearview mirror) 1 - Randall McNally Austin, TX Road Atlas 1 - Motorola MicroTAC Cell Phone w/ Car Charger 1 - Set of Jumper Cables For the most part, these items were in the back seat of the truck, covered with a tarp.
